January 2008

As many of you know, The Commentator recently returned  rom nearly a decade-long hiatus. The Editorial Board and staff hope that you enjoyed our fall issues, and that you continue to enjoy the articles and games in The
Commentator this semester.
We were very excited to launch our first poll at the end of last semester. We would like to thank so many of you for taking the time to answer the questions that we posted. You will find the results of that poll interspersed throughout various articles in this month’s issue. In particular, take note of Derek Turner’s article on health care on page 9, Dan Spurgeon’s article on Bar Passage on page 3, and our cover story by Jeff Aidikoff on the Presidential Primary Season.
Instead of describing the poll statistics in each article, we will briefly do so here. Between 247 and 265 students responded to each of the 10 questions posed. Of the 265 respondents, 51.3 percent were males and 48.7 percent were females. The Commentator used a well-known online survey system and is confident in the reliability of results based on respondent IP addresses.
Please check your student email in the coming weeks for our first poll of the spring semester.
As always, if you would like to add a rewarding experience to your resume, we are looking for writers to join our staff to write for Entertainment, Sports, Politics, Southwestern Community, and Breaking News. We welcome writers of all capabilities, whether or not you have newspaper experience. Best of all, you don’t have to wait until you’re a 2L to join.
We hope you enjoy this month’s edition, and we look forward to reading your comments, questions, or concerns.
